The Happy Humanist is a simple book for ordinary people who want to find greater enjoyment and peace in their lives. Happiness depends on who we think we are. We often get this wrong because there's no way of judging ourselves or other people. It's guess-work and emotion. That's why human relations are a problem for each one of us. We often ask too much from life because we think that's what w're entitled to. Result? Strife and unhappiness.
The reality of life is change and unpredictability - in every year, week, day and moment. Acceptance of this reality, an attitude of detachment, and awareness of the moment are the tools to create an environment of calm where we can enjoy. Freedom, justice and performing tasks that we think are meaningful are vital parts of that environment. We can't hide in our own back-yard.
